Dick Cheney Opposed The GM Bailout

In the closing days of the Bush administration, then-president Bush made the decision to grant General Motors a $13.4-billion loan to keep the company afloat, at least through the transition to the Obama administration. The decision wasn’t a popular one with then-vice-president Dick Cheney, who says in his new memoir that he’d been...

Ready to roll? Nissan Leaf limousine coming soon

How can green-conscious celebrities roll around in zero-emissions style while maintaining their precious VIP status? By checking in with Imperial Coach Builders of Missouri, which has announced it will soon stretch a Nissan Leaf into a limousine.

ICB says it will extend the hatch by 48 inches, but considering that all of the battery and electrical equipment are scattered throughout the vehicle, this seems like a real stretch (sorry). Luckily, ICB is a subsidiary of Electric Car Company, so the coach-building firm has a partner with the proper know-how to assist with this project. ECC president Gary Spaniak claims, "This will be the first conversion of this revolutionary vehicle and the first pure electric limousine."

ICB will give the Leaf limo double the seating capacity in the rear. Specifications have yet to be released, but having the seats face each other seems logical. We're quite curious to find out what sort of impact these modifications will have on the Leaf's range. Will there be extra batteries added as well as more seats?

mercedes motoring 1969 240 d sedan

JG Francis is an man who knows a lot about the older products in the Mercedes-Benz family. He owns Los Angeles-based Mercedes Motoring, which is where Francis turns wrenches on classic tri-stars and breathes new life back into the lumbering German coupes, sedans and wagons. Sometimes Francis will travel far to bring a new project back to his California shop, and his pal Sean always seems ready to make the trek with him.

The duo's latest conquest was a 1969 240 D sedan that was located all the way up in Fairbanks, Alaska. After 10 days and 4,000 miles, the men and their machine arrived back in the Golden State, and were given no issues by the classic diesel four door. Mercedes-Benz put together a short video about JG Francis and his shop, and the automaker is currently editing another about his most recent roadtrip. After the jump, we have the bio video for Francis and a teaser clip for his Alaska-to-California adventure.

Florida Driver Ticketed For Warning Others Of Speed Trap: Legal Or Not?

Eric Campbell was driving on Veteran’s Expressway in Tampa, Florida, when he spotted the Florida Highway Patrol cars sitting in the median. Campbell, who was driving the speed limit, did what he’s always done: he flashed his high beams to warn oncoming traffic of the speed trap. One of the Florida State Troopers noticed...

What's the most disappointing car-model redesign? [Question Of The Day]

Carmakers redesign their models for loads of reasons. Some to freshen a stale look, others to reposition a car for a larger audience, still others to meet new crash standards. Naturally, this can go horribly wrong. What's the most disappointing car-model redesign? More »

Lotus Exige

Lotus called it a night for the current generation Exige by unveiling two special edition models - the b>Exige S260 Final Edition and Matte Black Final Edition - but that doesn’t mean the brand’s engineers are getting a break. Just last month, the next generation sports car was caught testing covered in questionable camouflage and now our spy photographers have captured new images of the Lotus Exige with more mind-numbing coverups. We can’t wait for the 2013 Lotus Exige to be unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show just so our heads stop spinning from these psychedelic wraps.

These new spy images reveal a little more of the Exige’s future design language, like the new front and back of the vehicle. The future model will also benefit from a new rear wing on the elongated back end, a tidbit many of us anticipated when we heard that the new Exige would be borrowing elements from the Evora. The roofline also looks different from the current Exige.

As previously reported, the 2013 Exige will be powered by the same V6 engine as also found in the bigger Evora. So expect to see a 3.5 liter V6 producing 280 HP in the normal version and 350 HP in the S version. This engine will be combined with bigger brakes that, of course, suggest improved performance numbers.

Lotus Exige originally appeared on topspeed.com on Tuesday, 30 August 2011 07:15 EST.

What?s Wrong With This Picture: Genesis Coupe Joins The Family Edition

Back in April, I saw this car at Hyundai’s America Technical Center, but it was still heavily camouflaged and cameras were verboten. And unlike Hyundai’s other big 2012 Model-Year news, the wildly-improved “Grandeur” Azera replacement, we hadn’t seen photos of the updated GenCoupe leak out of Korea. Until now. Our man in Seoul, Walter Foreman, [...]
