Nichicon's NGQ-A202 and NGQ-A302 use what the firms calls "advanced module technology" to shrink down to something smaller than conventional quick-charge stations. Nichicon says that, at 59 x 13.8 x 23.6 inches, its pair of quick-charge stations are about 50-percent smaller than typical Level 3 units.
Small size means less power, though, and the Nichicon units have output capacities listed at 20 kW (NQC-A202) or 30 kW (NQC-A302). Even so, Nichicon's pair of quick chargers should be able to juice up a Nissan Leaf in less than one hour using the CHAdeMO connection. Charging at that speed doesn't come cheap, however; the units are expected to retail between $25,000 and $30,000 when they launch in Japan sometime this October.
