General Motors has announced that the Chevrolet Cruze will be available with diesel engine for 2013, an announcement that is significant for a couple of reasons.
The first thing that sprang to my mind was Bob Lutz's 2007 statement on the future of diesels at General Motors. He basically said that diesels would be expensive and wouldn't provide a significant fuel economy improvement over direct-injected gasoline engines.
